Michigan is the third largest apple producer in the United States, with over 11 million apple trees growing in our state. The first apples ripen in August.
Roughly half of the apples grown are eaten fresh. Many farms allow you to "pick your own" apples, but make sure to call ahead, as ripening schedules can vary around the state.
